Cats are territorial, but as I’ve noted in the past, ownership can change.
Case in point: the Condo at the Top of the Stairs* was previously Lefty’s spot. Not that he went inside much, but he frequently sat on top of it. Before Lefty took possession, Watanuki was a frequent resident.
* We’re still not sure if it’s supposed to be a TV or a microwave. Certainly the controls suggest the former, but the overall impression seems other. Perhaps it was designed by someone–probably on commission–who’d never actually seen a TV old enough to have a UHF dial. I can see him deciding that a Google Image search would be too much work. “Hmm, that microwave has a couple of dials and is square and boxy. Good enough.”
With the library–currently aka “Emeraldas’ Room–being open most of the day and night, Lefty is spending most of his time in there, leaving the CatTofS vacant. As we saw a couple of weeks ago, Yuki gave it a test, but ultimately he seems to have decided it’s not for him.
Never loathe to stake out turf in a high traffic zone, Sachiko moved in.
Not that gloats about her new habitat, of course.
She just has a smug resting face.
I don’t know why pictures of cats who don’t quite fit into their chosen spaces amuses me so much.
Maybe it’s the subtle–or sometimes not-so-subtle–puncturing of their superior attitude.
Or perhaps it’s because it’s an excellent illustration of how flexible the parameters of “If it fits, I sits” can become in the right paws.
Or–most likely of all–because it’s just gosh-darned cute.
As Yuki demonstrated recently.
There is a cat attached to that tail, but I sure can’t prove it.
Lefty has a new hangout.
The Condo at the End of the Hall (bum-bum-bummmmmm)
Joking aside, it’s interesting that he’s hanging out there.
That level of the condo has an outside view, but I’ve never seen him facing that way.
The view the house isn’t significantly different than what can be seen from The Cat Carrier at the End of the Hall (which is just barely visible at the lower right of the picture), and the condo offers far less shelter.
The Condo isn’t particularly padded. The Carrier has a cushion, which should make it considerably comfier.
And yet Lefty’s been sitting in the condo lately.
I’d think it’s because he knows how well the white fake fur sets off his coloration, but Lefty is still rather camera shy–I’m amazed he held still long enough for me to get this picture.
The mystery may never be solved–but I’m okay with that. We all need a few unsolved mysteries of no significance whatsoever in our lives to keep us from getting too complacent.
Lefty shares some of ‘Nuki’s size and shape issues.
Not that they have bad body images or anything like that. I’m talking about their ability to fold themselves comfortably into caves.
Lefty has been hanging out in a condo in my office lately. Mostly in. Over the past week or so, I’ve seen him leave a leg outside.
And, on one memorable occasion, two paws and a tail.
Kind of makes you wonder why he bothers with the condo at all, doesn’t it?
A couple of cameo appearances today. Perhaps you recall Beth and Eric’s feline overlords, Patience and Fortitude?
They’re no longer kittens, but they’re still quite the cuties.
“I haz a nest.” –Forti
“Oh, yeah? Well I haz a nest too, and I haz a kyute.” –Patti
“Oy, haz I gots a dubious about the both of youse.” –Sachiko. (Why yes, we are corrupting her language. Isn’t that what one is supposed to do to one’s kids?)
And after last week’s digression, here we are again, back with the usual crew.
Maggie took a short business trip earlier this week. She didn’t pack until the last minute, so ‘Nuki didn’t have a chance to hang out on his favorite temporary perch.
When she got back, he was taking no chances on missing out again. Less than five minutes after she walked in the door…
Lefty and Rufus are big on togetherness–though Rufus does sometimes seem a bit relieved when Lefty goes exploring around the house. Most of the time, though, they can be found in tandem.
Naturally, the usual dynamic is that Lefty keeps watch while Rufus sleeps. Wouldn’t do for a hoomin to sneak up and pat his buddy, after all…
